Australian Government protection for refugees

The Australian Department of Home Affairs has created a visa called the Community Support Program Visa. This CSP Visa enables pre-approved organisations to sponsor refugees for a Global Special Humanitarian (Subclass 202) Visa.

Permanent Protection - Permanent Residency Visa

A Community Support Program Visa is an Australian Permanent Residency visa and gives you the right to apply for Australian Citizenship and the rights to:

1. Live in Australia indefinitely and permanently; and

2. Receive free health care through the Australian Medicare system; and

3. Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence in Australia.

Can you apply for CSP Visa

Place of residence

  • You and your family members need to be residing outside of your home country.
  • Age of main applicant

  • The main person applying for the visa must be between 18 and 50 years old. The other family members included in the application can be of any age.
  • English language ability of main applicant

  • The main person applying for the visa needs to be able to speak some English. This requirement doesn't apply to the other family members included in the application. There is no English language test; you just need to have some ability to speak English.
  • Australian job offer

  • The main applicant for this visa will need to have a job offer in Australia or a plan that helps you find a job there. This plan could involve getting more education or having your qualifications from another country recognized in Australia, which can help you get a job. It's important to note that this requirement doesn't apply to other family members included in the application.
  • Refugee claims

  • You will also need to show proof that you are facing serious unfair treatment that greatly violates your basic human rights in your home country. This can include being targeted, mistreated, or harassed because of your race, religion, nationality, political beliefs, or being part of a specific social group.
  • You and your family members need to be residing outside of your home country.

    Do you have any family or friends in Australia?

    If you have family or friends in Australia, they can be your Australian Supporter. An Australian Supporter is someone who helps you settle in Australia. They are part of the Australian community and agree to assist refugees like you in starting a new life in Australia.

    Cost of the CSP Visa

    The costs of the CSP Visa include the 1st Visa Application Charge of $535, which is paid on the lodgement of the visa application, and a 2nd Visa Application Charge of $7,270 which is paid just before the visa is granted.

    There are additional fees of $15,500 payable to the Eastern Christian Welfare Australia Ltd in proposing your CSP Visa application.
